When a Painting Meets the Right Eyes
There’s a moment I’ve come to cherish when a collector tells me what they see in one of my paintings. And it’s never exactly what I saw. It’s something new, born from their own inner life, from memory or mood or meaning I never could have placed there myself.
That’s when I know the work is alive. Not just because I made it but because it made something in them.
When a painting finds the right person, it becomes a conversation. My gestures, their gaze. My intention, their response. It no longer belongs to me the same way, it belongs to the space between us.
This is the magic of collecting. It’s not about knowing what something “means.” It’s about recognizing that what you see matters. That your experience is valid. That the work you choose to live with reflects something essential about you.
And that, to me, is the most beautiful kind of collaboration.
