Layers: A Touring Exhibition Celebrating the Depth and Range of Women Artists

In July, the city moves. So does the art.
Cater Art Gallery’s Layers exhibition hits the road this week with three stops across Montreal, culminating in a vernissage at Galerie Lucie Michel. Each location brings the viewer into conversation with four women whose work speaks in distinct voices, yet echoes the same call — presence, perception, and power.

Layers is an unfolding of the experience of being a woman. A deliberate celebration of the multiplicity that defines the feminine and a refusal to flatten that into a single aesthetic.

Art That Holds More Than One Thing
Each artist in Layers builds her practice from lived experience. Whether textured, minimalist, figurative, or gestural, the work is shaped by inner knowing and hard-earned nuance. These works are storied, sensory, and full of energetic memory.

Featured artists include:

  • @margaretlipseyart – abstract expressions of emotional landscapes and emerging truths

  • @janiqueart – layered, sensual forms in oil and mixed media

  • @sarahparadis_art – powerful compositions reflecting tenderness and transformation

  • @amelievallieresart – feminine portraits that seem to see into your heart

A New Way to experience Art
The all-women lineup, the mobile format, and the decision to share work across varied neighborhoods are part of what makes Layers unique. This is not a gallery in one place — it’s art that travels, creates context, and invites engagement with fresh eyes at each stop.

Where to Find Us
The Layers tour runs the week of July 28, with daily updates shared in stories. The final vernissage will be held at Galerie Lucie Michel — exact dates to be confirmed.
