Escape
There is a part of my brain that switches off when there is sand beneath my toes and water all the way to the horizon. The sound of the waves steadies my heartbeat. The sunshine penetrating deep into my heart.
The water brings a lightness to my soul. It opens a memory stored somewhere deep inside that this life is meant to be enjoyed more than it is meant to be endured. A reminder that we are meant to be in wonder of nature, in awe that we find people to love, in appreciation of moments when everything fits together perfectly.
The water never looks exactly the same and yet it always brings me serenity. Some days I stare into this work and I can hear the seagulls, I can feel the uneven sand beneath me, I am there. I am at peace, calm, and free.
