Tornado of Roses, 20"x30", 2022
The wood panels absorb the paint differently that canvas does. Quite often there are traces of wood in the final pieces. This work was painted flat on the floor as opposed to on an easel or hanging on the wall, which meant I could walk around it as I worked.
My sense was that the blues and greens would lead me towards a waterscape or serene green meadow. But as I spun around the panel, the colors began to twist and spin as well. Suddenly I was caught quite literally in the movement and dance around the panel.
There are times when I so easily relax into painting and times when I battle the paint and canvas to move it forward. This felt like the painting was calling me to play, to paint with my entire body, to trust in the dance, to let the wind blow me wherever it might go.
