In The Middle
In the Middle, 2022. 16”x20”
I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun. – Jane Austen
I know very well the beginning. That feeling of starting something new, of learning a new language for this skill I am developing. I understand the patience required there, the mistakes that will be made.
And I have also seen how things end. I have marked the occasion with celebration or contemplation, a respect for the journey whether arduous or smooth.
But I am currently existing in a middle place. It is strange to have the answers to so many things and feel like I have mountains to learn. At the same time, I am unlearning the habits of the past to move forward so there is a sense of beginning and a sense of ending wrapped together. I could spend years wondering how to navigate this beginning ending middle place that I find myself in, or I could just keep putting one foot in front of the other and trust that it is all progressing as it is meant to.
