The Simplicity of Line
The Simplicity of Line, 2023, 24”x36”
If you look at a line from the two points at either end, you can observe how straight or twisted a journey it wanders. But if you look at two points next to each other somewhere in the middle it is impossible to know how the journey began or how it will end.
We can try to lean into the simplicity of moving from one point to the next, embracing the peace of not knowing the obstacles or the ease that lies ahead. There is such calm in being fully in this moment, in this place, doing this one thing, and then clearly seeing the next step as it presents itself. The complexity of this life and its many details are simplified as we stop looking for that bird’s eye view of our lives.
The simplicity of a line is that it is merely the connection between points, without anxiety or regret, without judgement or fear. There is such beauty in realizing that we all are just moving along a line, from where we are right now towards what is next. We are always moving and although one point may feel significant it will, like all the points before it and each one that follows, soon be in the past.
